Jeez, even ‘mother!’ is talking about how so many people hate ‘mother!’

TwitterFacebook

With self-awareness in such short supply in Hollywood, isn’t it nice to know that some studios are willing to just finally ‘fess up and own it when something goes haywire?

Darren Aronofsky’s mother! clearly isn’t for everybody — maybe even for nobody, as its rare ‘F’ Cinemascore would indicate, though critics kinda dug it — and at first, Paramount Pictures (and Aronofsky himself) went immediately on the defensive

But somewhere along the way, someone at Paramount realized that this see-it-for-yourself challenge could be a selling point. The studio on Tuesday released this new promo video that leans hard into the idea that you’re probably going to hate it, but hey, maybe you’re one of the few who doesn’t. Read more…

TwitterFacebook

Lara Croft is back — and hey, her neck seems pretty normal!

In this first trailer for the upcoming Tomb Raider film, Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl, Ex Machina) takes on the video game heroine’s role as she explores her father’s disappearance on a sinister island. (And, this being a Hollywood action-adventure blockbuster, of course “the fate of humanity something-something” is a part of it.

This is the first on-screen Tomb Raider adventure since 2003’s The Cradle of Life, sequel to the 2001 Tomb Raider film starring Angelina Jolie. The film is directed by Roar Uthaug with a script from Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Toby Gard. Read more…

Sia’s new track for the ‘My Little Pony’ Movie is surprisingly moody and kinda great

TwitterFacebook

If you’ve watched as much My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic as I have — it’s a young-daughters thing, not a Brony thing, OK? — then it will come as no surprise that the music, themes and visuals around this franchise can be fairly sophisticated these days.

And leave it to Sia to put a touch of sparkly melancholy into her contribution to the upcoming My Little Pony: The Movie soundtrack, a song called “Rainbow,” which also got its own music video on Tuesday.

Sia plays a pop-star pony Songbird Serenade, of whom we get a glimpse at the top of this video. Read more…

Someone actually completed this insane Super Mario puzzle

TwitterFacebook

Within that box sits 1,000 puzzle pieces and roughly 500 of them are nearly identical. Somehow, somebody managed to put them all together.

For Super Mario Day 2017, ThinkGeek released the above 1,000-piece puzzle, and Reddit user HardAngelFan completed it a couple months later. The title of their post: “I used to love puzzles. Never. Again.”

Here is the completed puzzle:

Who thought it was a good idea to make 50% of a 1,000-piece puzzle the same color?

Sure, the background isn’t exactly solid red — there are some diagonal gray lines to assist in the piece-matching process — but come on. Imagine finishing the right half and then staring at that menacing pile of red pieces, hours of work standing between you and completion. Read more…

New ‘Shadow of the Colossus’ trailer shines a bright ray of hope into our dark world

TwitterFacebook

Hey. Remember when Sony revealed at E3 2017 that a new HD upgrade for Shadow of the Colossus was incoming? Well. Here’s a new trailer.

Team Ico’s unconventional open world action/puzzle game doesn’t have the happiest story to tell, but  it’s a work of great beauty all the same. It’s quiet, it’s contemplative, it’s unlike just about every game released before or since.

And it’s coming sometime in 2018. Read more…
